One current focus of the University of Minnesota Extension Master Gardener program education efforts is youth gardening.

Programs that connect youth to gardening are on the increase nationally. University of Minnesota Extension Master Gardeners have expanded efforts in youth gardening education, often done in partnerships with other organizations and schools. These programs have goals associated with promoting healthy eating, reducing child obesity, connecting youth to nature, and teaching life and science skills.

Our program endorses the use of the Junior Master Gardener curriculum and program. It is a nationally and internationally recognized Extension youth gardening program developed by Texas Agricultural Extension Service.
